Wheat

Wheat contains gluten and is probably the oldest cultivated cereal. Following maize and rice, it is the most widely grown cereal in the world. Wheat is mostly made of starch and is an important source of protein. Especially whole-grain wheat products contain vitamins of the B group and vitamin E, but also minerals such as iron and magnesium, and dietary fiber.

Wheat is used to produce bread and pasta and is used as animal food. Because it contains gluten it has to be strictly avoided by celiacs.
